RaS

Rename and sort files with ease!
RaS is a free application that smartly auto renames your files by dragging and dropping the files onto it.
Depending on what file type is, it can use metadata embedded into the file, deletes any blacklisted words, general file name clean or uses webservices. This is all done with simplicity in mind.

0.85 update

Finally an update :) A much improved column sorting, faster file renaming, Jpeg location naming improvements and bug fixes. What’s next short term? I’ll be looking into easy native installers, instead of the Jar file.

0.85 changelog:

  • Only allow 2 open connections max at a time to Googles reverse geocoder service.
  • Update backend libraries.
  • Replaced table layout with a more scalable one which allows better column sorting.
  • Jpeg naming improved.

Traffic :)

I see the traffic has picked up on the site(and actually clicked on some ads!), so I thought I better release another version, which is near complete :)

Would be great if anyone reports back any feedback of the good, the bad or the ugly while they have been using the application.

Optimisations coming up.

Been working on the next update, which will be released soon.
I wanted to include better sorting on files, so I replaced the table I was using with another. As a side effect of using a more scalable table and the such, I have improved performance.

Drag and dropping 2,526 music files:

On 0.84a, it was completed in 28 seconds.

On 0.85, it finished at 17 seconds. This is about 40% improvement.

However this speed up would probably only be noticed when not using online services.

100% Clean

It seems that RaS was added to the Softpedia website automagically at http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/File-Management/RaS.shtml

Another mirror is always good :)

They have also said RaS is 100% clean(of course): http://www.softpedia.com/progClean/RaS-Clean-197153.html

I have found a bug, the Google reverse geocoder service blocks RaS as it still makes too many connections. This will be fixed in the next update. Meaning, those who are renaming jpgs, you may not have the location information attached to the filename.

Only 9 days to go on the crowdfunding page: http://www.indiegogo.com/Automatic-rename-and-sort-files-application

If you can think of better rewards then give a comment and I’ll see what I can do.

Mirror

If anyone having downloading issues I’ve setup a mirror at cnet.com

Get it from CNET Download.com!

Be great if anyone can do a review over there too.

RaS getting stuck when doing TV series

If you getting a problem where RaS isn’t finishing, it’s because of TVrage.com services are overloaded/slow and causing trouble for the client. RaS uses TVrage for getting the full name of a TV series.

I’m currently trying to fix the getting stuck issue and optimising a little. Also I currently make too many connections to their server at once, causing unneeded connection overloading, so going to limit that.

TVrage has a donation link on their site to fund their free service: http://services.tvrage.com/

This in turn will help RaS :)

The next version of RaS is nearing complete. This includes a few bug fixes, sorting files into folders depending on file type and improved TV series renaming.

Looking for feedback

Looking for any feedback - bugs, suggestions, solutions, ideas, ratings, etc.

So far all feedback has been positive :)

Got my first 2 contributions on Indiegogo which is great!

Help fund RaS!

Site is nearly done. I’ve added a comment system, a video showing what RaS can do, an easy download button, simple file host without ads, Flattr button and small website advertising to help fund, Google Analytics and a basic site heading.

I’ve also have setup a Crowdfunding page to help get this project finished:

So go support this project! :)
